Consumer information
As a cutflower the hydrangea is very suitable for putting in the vase and they combine themselves effortlessly with other flowers. After harvesting the flowers, the stems are directly put into the water and cooled. This stimulates the preservability of the flower. Then they are sold at the auction.
We distinguish two main groups: fresh and classic.
When you buy hydrangeas, these things are important:
Fresh hydrangeas mostly are clear colours like white, blue, pink or purple. When you have this flowers, cut a small piece of the stem. Put them in a clean vase, not in full sunshine or above heating. If one or more flowers are week, you can cut another small piece of the stem. Most of the time the flower will be good again.
Classic hydrangeas have a more green, red or brown colour. They will not become weak quickly and after some weeks they dehydrate. Take the water out of the vase. You can have weeks of pleasure from these splendid flowers, which are also useful as dried flowers.
